Panerai Radiomir Leather Strap 26/22 Los Alamos Tapered

Description

About the Leather:  100% hand made, and hand stitched as with all of my straps. I made this brown Radiomir strap specifically in consideration of the larger 47mm Radiomir with pillow case design, namely the PAM323 and others that have a thicker case design than the standard 45mm cases while retaining the same wire lug width. To compensate for the fatter case, I constructed this strap with tapering thickness that starts at 7mm near the lugs and reduces to 5mm near the center and tips of the strap.  This increased thickness near the case eliminates the frequent feeling of “this strap is too thin for this watch”.

In consideration of the up-sized 47mm Radiomir cases, I have also bulked up the thread size and keeper size.  The strap features a nice reddish clay tan outer with visible fat lines and other distress marks. The inner is a lighter shade of tan. I selected this leather because of it’s unique and pronounced pull-up characteristic, which will lend a well-worn aesthetic to the strap with time. The thread is a medium beige color tone. This gorgeous brown Radiomir strap features two floating keepers, allowing you to remove one if you like.

This is the perfect strap for those collectors who like to watch leather age and appreciate the subtle differences that show themselves over long periods of wear, and those who want something specifically made for their larger 47mm case.  Please note that this strap will also fit 45mm Panerai Radiomir models with no issues.

Measurements:  Width 26mm at the case and 22mm at the buckle area. Thickness ~7mm at the case, 5mm for the rest of the strap.

Additional Information:  For each Panerai watch, I have a different design philosophy when it comes to making straps.  The Radiomir is my historical favorite among all Panerai cases.  I bought my first Radiomir nearly two decades ago and did not start making straps for them until many years later when I neared retirement.  The Radiomir is a fun and challenging case to make custom straps for. 

On larger Panerai cases in the 47mm range, I tend to use thicker thread with wider spacing. For the Radiomir I employ a mixture of both thicker and thinner threads, and both tight and wide spacing.  When determining the thread thickness and spacing I take into account the characteristics of the leather.  As a general rule, I tend to make my custom Radiomir straps in thicknesses ranging from 3.5 to 5.0mm. The average thickness will be somewhere in the middle.

Due to the wire lugs of the typical Panerai Radiomir case, I tend to lean towards leathers of a slightly softer and more pliable temper.  From a design perspective, I tend to utilize a taper of 27-22 or 26-22 depending on the leather.  If you have a larger 47mm Radiomir case, like a PAM323, I highly recommend going with straps of 4.5mm thickness or above.  I have even designed some custom Radiomir straps specifically for the 47mm Radiomir cases that have a bolstered taper where the strap meets the case.
