Description
About the Leather:Â A meticulously handcrafted brown shark leather strap, designed for unparalleled durability and unique texture. This rare brown shark leather is scarce and sought after. Moreover, previous versions of this strap sold out in a short period of time and remained out of stock for months. Featuring a sewn-in pre-V style brushed buckle and two floating keepers, this strap delivers both rugged functionality and classic Panerai aesthetics. The edge finishing has been improved over previous versions. No more cracks, and much more flexibility over previous versions.
The edges of this strap are a semi-gloss hand burnished black that is waterproof. Onward and upwards, we’re always making improvements! This shark leather Panerai strap is composed of 100% shark skin with no calf skin backing on this MAR0001 variation. Additionally, the strap features a crease along the edges. Stainless steel tubes are provided on the lug sides of the strap, and are removable at your discretion. The buckle pin holes are in the traditional circular shape and positioning may be customized by request. I selected a brown thread with high tensile strength for the boxed hand stitching on this strap.
Why Shark Leather?
Shark leather has long been a rare and sought-after material in the world of rugged dive watch straps. Its naturally textured grain, high resistance to wear, and water-resistant properties make it an ideal choice for everyday wear and adventure alike. Furthermore, sharkskin develops a distinctive patina over time, enhancing its character with age.
A Nod to Panerai’s Heritage
Sharkskin straps gained prominence in the 1990s, largely thanks to Sylvester Stallone, a well-known Panerai enthusiast. Stallone’s love for Panerai, particularly during the filming of Daylight (1996), helped bring the brand into the spotlight. Many of his personal Panerai watches featured bold shark leather straps, reinforcing their connection to adventure. These straps echo Panerai’s naval heritage, where durability and water resistance were critical. While no longer a standard option, sharkskin remains a rare and sought-after choice among collectors, blending tradition with modern craftsmanship. A shark leather strap isn’t just an accessory—it’s a nod to Panerai’s history

Additional Information: The 44mm Panerai Luminor is the true workhorse of the Panerai lineup, and by far has the most potential for aftermarket strap creation. While larger 47mm case models demand thicker straps, the 44mm Luminor case is more flexible and works with a variety of different strap thicknesses. With that in mind, I make most of my 44mm case Panerai straps with thinner thread. Additionally, when I select the thread and spacing, I take into consideration the thickness and temper of the leather.
Most of my 24mm custom straps for 44mm Panerai models utilize a vintage Panerai style pin buckle. However, you will find that many straps in this section also have additional buckle options in the drop down menus above. My general design philosophy for 24mm straps is dual keepers of generous width, box stitching, and a thickness or 3.5 to 5.5mm depending on leather temper.
Finally, all of my 24mm Panerai straps for 44mm cases are 24/24mm, without a taper. The only tapered straps that I make are for Radiomir cases. My design preferences for the 44mm Panerai case tend towards longer buckle sides and shorter bottom sides. Above all, the aim is to achieve as much balance as possible. Additionally, the stitching margins will be thinner on my 24mm Panerai straps than they are on my 47mm Panerai straps.
I pride myself in each aftermarket Panerai strap that I produce. Moreover, I use the absolute basic tools, the same tools that I used as a boot maker for nearly two decades. In conclusion, as a result of the handmade nature of these straps, no two are identical.
