Panerai Radiomir Leather Strap 26/22 “Alden Color 8” Limited

Description

About the Leather:  This strap is an absolute masterpiece on the wrist.  This Alden Color 8 Radiomir burgundy strap is completely handmade and hand stitched with pride and attention to detail as with all of my straps.  For this project, I selected a thick and semi-glossy chrome tanned leather with a deep and rich burgundy tone.  This hefty strap measures about 5.5mm thick making it a perfect fit for the Panerai Radiomir 45mm case.  The deep color gets lighter as you flex the leather.  This strap is of a medium-soft rigidity, and will form to your wrist in a short period of time.  I selected an awesome medium brown thread for the stitching on this project.  The strap design features one floating keeper and one fixed.  I have added a subtle crease to the edges of the strap and keepers.

This burgundy Alden Color 8 Radiomir strap features by default a brushed stainless steel vintage style pin buckle that is sewn in place.  Additional buckle options are available from the drop down menu if you would like a different configuration.  Above, you can view this strap paired with the timeless PAM00183 Black Seal.  Due to the unique temper and finish of this leather, it will develop character fairly quickly with consistent wear.  This is simply legendary and if you own a pair of Alden shoes in Color 8 Burgundy, you’ll be immediately familiar with this leather and color.  The burgundy color really comes out in sunlight, and photographs alone cannot capture it’s beauty.

Additional Information:  For each Panerai watch, I have a different design philosophy when it comes to making straps.  The Radiomir is my historical favorite among all Panerai cases.  I bought my first Radiomir nearly two decades ago and did not start making straps for them until many years later when I neared retirement.  The Radiomir is a fun and challenging case to make custom straps for. 

On larger Panerai cases in the 47mm range, I tend to use thicker thread with wider spacing. For the Radiomir I employ a mixture of both thicker and thinner threads, and both tight and wide spacing.  When determining the thread thickness and spacing I take into account the characteristics of the leather.  As a general rule, I tend to make my custom Radiomir straps in thicknesses ranging from 3.5 to 5.0mm. The average thickness will be somewhere in the middle.

Due to the wire lugs of the typical Panerai Radiomir case, I tend to lean towards leathers of a slightly softer and more pliable temper.  From a design perspective, I tend to utilize a taper of 27-22 or 26-22 depending on the leather.  If you have a larger 47mm Radiomir case, like a PAM323, I highly recommend going with straps of 4.5mm thickness or above.  I have even designed some custom Radiomir straps specifically for the 47mm Radiomir cases that have a bolstered taper where the strap meets the case.
