About the Leather: *Limited to 5-10 pieces due to scarcity of leather. Expand your Panerai Radiomir strap options! A new design concept featuring all rounded edges to compliment the Radiomir case. To make this design work, it is recommended that you select a size that comes close to the minimum possible length that you can wear. I handcrafted this exceptionally supple and pliable burgundy Radiomir strap, ensuring hand stitching, a hallmark of all my creations. In sourcing materials for this strap, I scoured the tanneries for a soft vegetable-tanned leather in the ideal burgundy hue. The selected leather boasts a uniform color and a consistent top surface. Notably, its almost gummy texture promises a snug fit around the wrist, enhancing comfort remarkably.
Incorporating one floating keeper and one fixed, this design balances functionality with elegance seamlessly. This strap features a fold similar to the OEM strap, with the edge of the fold terminating near the buckle side. The only buckle option for this strap is a special rounded version of the OEM trapezoidal buckle, as pictured above. You may remove this buckle and use your OEM 22mm buckle if you choose. The buckle was specifically chosen for it’s rounded edges to match the concept of the strap. To match the overall tone of the strap, I have selected a color matched thread for the hand stitching. An additional line of stitching was added along the buckle. Finally, shown in the images above is this burgundy Radiomir strap on the Panerai Radiomir 8 Days PAM00992, providing a visual reference for its appearance. Additional Information: For each Panerai watch, I have a different design philosophy when it comes to making straps. The Radiomir is my historical favorite among all Panerai cases. I bought my first Radiomir nearly two decades ago and did not start making straps for them until many years later when I neared retirement. The Radiomir is a fun and challenging case to make custom straps for.
On larger Panerai cases in the 47mm range, I tend to use thicker thread with wider spacing. For the Radiomir I employ a mixture of both thicker and thinner threads, and both tight and wide spacing. When determining the thread thickness and spacing I take into account the characteristics of the leather. As a general rule, I tend to make my custom aftermarket Radiomir straps in thicknesses ranging from 3.5 to 5.0mm. The average thickness will be somewhere in the middle.
Due to the wire lugs of the typical Panerai Radiomir case, I tend to lean towards leathers of a slightly softer and more pliable temper. From a design perspective, I tend to utilize a taper of 27-22 or 26-22 depending on the leather. If you have a larger 47mm Radiomir case, like a PAM323, I highly recommend going with straps of 4.5mm thickness or above. I have even designed some custom aftermarket Radiomir straps specifically for the 47mm Radiomir cases that have a bolstered taper where the strap meets the case.
